Winter Recharge 2019 February 23, 2019
8:30am- 3:15pm
THRC Welcomes Pierre Harrison! Pierre grew up in the vast forest of North Ontario, Canada. He enjoyed a playful childhood filed with bumps and scrapes, wonder and adventure, and eventually earned a B.Sc. in Biochemistry, M.Sc in Protein Chemistry and B.Ed. Pierre launched PLAYLearnThink in order to promote the importance of play as an essential stepping stone towards a life of learning. Pierre is the current president of the Canadian branch of the International Play Association.

Participants will play and create with a multitude of loose parts and tools. Get ready to plunge into the joy of self-directed, spontaneous play and thus, feel first hand what children experience during free play.

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will deepen their understanding of child-directed play and its essential role in child development and the building of knowledge.
Participants will gain an appreciation for letting children explore risk based on their development.
Participants will nurture links between learning through play and the How Does Learning Happen? document.
Participants will acquire knowledge to help them develop their indoor/outdoor space to help support children’s spontaneous play and autonomous exploration of their environment.
Participants will add to their understanding of the need to document their observations of children at play in order to nurture the child’s learning, evolve the participants’s work (co-constructing with children) and make the child’s learning visible.
