Course Descriptions

Fostering Equitable Practices I
We live in a world where isms, such as racism, sexism, heterosexism, and ableism are a part of lived daily experiences. In this course, you are invited to examine power, privilege, unconscious bias, microaggressions, and intersectionality to integrate different perspectives on equity and diversity. You will evaluate the role of language, and how impact, rather than intention, is critical to expanding your inclusive practices. Finally, you will explore strategies to enhance your capacity to be more inclusive both at work and in your other relationships.

Fostering Equitable Practices II
How can you enhance your knowledge about anti-racism, and shift language and behaviours to better model inclusion and belonging? In this course, you will explore Anti-Black and Anti-Indigenous racism, distinguish between being not racist and being anti-racist, and explain why phrases like 鈥淎ll Lives Matter鈥 are racist. You will explore strategies to enhance your capacity to be anti-racist in your workplace and in the broader community.

Participants will choose 1 out of the 3 electives below once they begin Module 1:

Modelling Inclusive Leadership Practices
You will explore examine the theories, models, and practices of inclusive leadership required in contemporary workplaces. Participants will define their own leadership philosophy through examining their personal values, beliefs, and attitudes, and how your role as a formal or informal leader can contribute to greater inclusion. Finally, you will develop concrete actions to increase inclusion practices in your work environment.

Exploring Disability and Difference
Seldom do we have opportunities to engage with disability, to learn more about the historical framing of disability as deficit, and to discover the ways in which people experience different types of disabilities. This course provides you with an opportunity to explore disability and the global world.鈥 You will critically examine perspectives on what is normal, and how our understanding of the norm comes to inform how we maintain an understanding of bodies that are labelled as different.鈥 You will鈥痚ngage in authentic conversations about uncomfortable鈥痗oncepts, and鈥痚xplore strategies to enhance your capacity for inclusive practices.

Cultivating LGBTQ2S+ Inclusive Practices
In this course, you will explore key intersections of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and best practices in the establishment of inclusive and accommodating spaces. You will investigate appropriate tools, insights, skills, and frameworks to design, maintain, and sustain spaces for the LGBTQ2S+ community. You will鈥痚ngage in authentic conversations about uncomfortable鈥痗oncepts, and鈥痚xplore strategies to enhance your capacity for inclusive practices.
