A day to learn and expand our knowledge in food preparation and self-care. The day provides people who prepare and serve food in child care programs with a chance to gather information, learn new skills, and network with each other. Participants will take part in three great workshops! See workshop descriptions below:
Laughter Yoga:
To balance, to harmonize and to integrate, that is the purpose of yoga. Laughter yoga, like other yoga styles, helps the body to do this, but through laughter exercises and deep breathing rather than complex poses. A portable, easy and fun skill to learn! Health benefits of laughter exercise includes physical as well as emotional re-balancing. Please dress comfortably for this workshop. No yoga mat required. Dr. Hanifa Menen, Menen Centre for Optimum Health & Dr. Jeff Appelmann, Canadian Integrative Cancer Centre
Back Care:
Does your back let you know you’re doing too much? This session will provide information on preventing Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) and how your daily physical movements can be supported. Discussion will include risk factors for MSD, lifting tips, hazard recognition, assessment, control and evaluation. Connie Limnidis, Public Services Health & Safety Association
Making Sense of So Much Information:
With all of the misconceptions and confusing information out there come to learn the truth! This hands on workshop will focus on food labels, organic foods and food allergies, such as gluten and dairy free food options. We will sample some neat and easy snacks and you will receive some new recipes and tips just for you! Get ready to laugh and feel empowered to rock this food world! Roslyn Gordon, Highway to Health
