Early Literacy Specialist

Children are competent communicators from birth. Parents and caregivers play an important role in supporting children’s literacy skills into adulthood, by recognizing children’s needs and natural curiosity in the world, and responding to them.

The role of the Early Literacy Specialist is to support early literacy and numeracy development throughout Halton Region by providing resources, workshops, seminars and consultations for parents, caregivers and early childhood professionals. In addition, the Early Literacy Specialist works collaboratively with Early Years Centres, libraries, recreational and cultural programs on projects and initiatives to support parents/caregivers and teachers.

The Early Literacy Specialist offers individual consultations, early literacy support, and workshops for parents/caregivers. These presentation are FREE and can be arranged in the day, evening or on a weekend. In addition, the Early Literacy Specialist visits Early Years Centres and Child Care Centres in Halton to share literacy activities with families and caregivers.

WORKSHOP TOPICS are constructed from questions posed by caregivers and parents.

These include:

  • Connecting the Outdoors to Literacy
  • Supporting Engagement
  • Playing to Learn
  • Learning with Little Ones
  • Building Literacy Rich Homes and Classrooms
  • And more!
